DMH Stallard is to merge with divorce specialist Brookman Solicitors, two years after hitting the £30m mark.

The merger is the Crawley-headquartered firm’s fourth in the last six years, following two combinations in 2015 (with Guildford firm AWB and London firm Ross & Craig) and one in 2017 (with Sussex’s Rawlison Butler).

DMH has tended to hunt for firms in the £3m-£5m bracket, with other previous mergers including Surrey-based Callaghans in 2012.

Brookman Solicitors was founded by Henry Brookman in 2000. The six-lawyer firm, led by partners Henry and Talitha Brookman, is based in Chancery Lane.

DMH Stallard has jumped in and out of the UK top 100 over the last 20 years. In 2019/20 it dropped from 96th to 102nd place after the firm’s revenue dipped slightly from £30.1m – its highest ever – to around £30m. It once ranked as high as 86th in 2005, the year London’s Stallard and DMH of the South of England merged.

DMH Stallard now has a total of 123 lawyers, including 64 partners, across five offices (London, Crawley, Guildford, Brighton and Horsham). Real estate work makes up 37 per cent of the firm’s revenue, with litigation accounting for 23 per cent of turnover and corporate 20 per cent.

Following the Brookman merger, the firms’ combined revenue will be in the region of £31m, with 67 partners and 273 staff in total working across six offices in London, Surrey and Sussex.

DMH Stallard managing partner Richard Pollins said that plans for growth were temporarily paused 12 months ago while the firm dealt with the impact of the pandemic: “It is therefore satisfying to announce this important milestone in our broader growth plans at the start of 2021. I hope this will be the first of a number of mergers in London and the region for the firm over the next few years as we continue our expansion strategy.

Brookman Solicitors is particularly well known and highly regarded for exemplary work in the area of divorce, and their joining will undoubtedly strengthen our family law practice in London.”

The merger is expected to complete on 1 May 2021.
